Re: How's the weather? v. 1.1

It should rain soon. September and October are usually the beginning of the rainy months. Fingers crossed.

Re: How's the weather? v. 1.1

NH has had only about 5 inches of rain this summer, and the well at the family house has run dry this weekend. Both the small stream and the larger brook on the property are dry as well, meaning that there isn't any groundwater left in the ridge above the house. Nothing to do for my sister's family ...

In Turkiye, 'am' means 'cunt', so anglos need to very carefully say 'ah' as a filler word instead.

Class oriented critiques rather than race essentialism. Some post modern derived stuff, which I have been guilty of misunderstanding in the past, I think. I'm not on board yet, but the OG PoMo angles are less screwy than I used to think, if you accept a lot of their premises I've realized that I id...

Re: Podcasts - Watcha listening to?

Slavoj Zizek has many hours of lectures on a podcast, and I'm enjoying the first one. Not to be entirely dismissive of Zizek, because his vita and nonacademic career has certainly been impressive and colorful, but I start with the fact that the man is, indeed, a Marxist (he say "of a sort" but I th...

Re: Podcasts - Watcha listening to?

Slavoj Zizek has many hours of lectures on a podcast, and I'm enjoying the first one. Red Scare continues to be fun, and a useful window into Left (not progressive/liberal) views on contemporary politics in a way that I hated when I tried Chapo. I don't know if I could deal with Nice White Parents a...

Re: It's not the size of the screen...

Made it through one and a half episodes of HBO’s Perry Mason adaptation - a dull, artless, snooze. So slow. TV is so bad now. You're so, so wrong about that show. Well, not about the pace in the early episodes, but otherwise wrong. It looks like every other generic "dark" TV show of the last 10 yea...

Re: Music for the Masses

I don't dislike Collins' music. The songs he's best known for are way overproduced, typical for that era, but I don't grimace if one pops up on the radio. Oh yeah, and I haven't watched the video and probably won't. It's mildly cute. From a channel by a couple of kids who had their hearing surgical...

Hahahaha the Dems can't do fucking anything right. Why not run Hillary again? Nah, that would have been Klobuchar. I don't like the pick, but I'm not really the target of the pick. The "internet commentariat" isn't really the target. The target is "middle class white people who like a good compelli...

Re: Random covid-19 observations

I basically spend the entire summer getting angry every time I see someone in long sleeves, I hate people who aren't hot all the time, I hate them so much. On bright sunny days, I wear light long sleeved shirts to keep the sun off my arms if I have to be outdoors. It may be warmer, but it reduces t...

Re: I may want to see that?

The first season of Mr. Mercedes is quite good, and very very dark, but after two episodes of season two I don't know if I'm into it any more. There are some tropes I don't like, and... *SPOILER* 'innocent person manipulated by magic into crimes that they are blamed for until late in the arc' Is one...

Re: Speaking in tongues (the "learning languages" thread)

The thing about Spanish verbs is that there are classes of verbs which all conjugate in the same way, so learning to recognize which class the verb belongs to, and other verbs in that class, is key to correctly memorizing them IMHO.

A) I'm into actually doing something podcasty with the gryllitariat. Interesting idea tbh, premise being many/most of us haven't actually met.

2: I'm currently enjoying Red Scare podcast and will probably get onto their Patreon at some point.

Re: Whither the GOP? (post-Trump edition)

The Lincoln Project is definitely getting under the skin of the right. I’m pretty sure NR has more articles attacking them than attacking Biden. One of which was where a former senior editor was saying that you can tell a lot about them by who funds the Lincoln Project. Is NR now on the Trump Train...
