Re: Oh, Canada

Trudeau won't go to Washington to meet with Trump and Obrador to celebrate Son-of-NAFTA. The official reason is that he would have to self-quarantine for 14 days on his return and that would conflict with the opening of Parliament, which is almost de rigueur for a Prime Minister to attend. Most peo...

I once had a Coke Zero handed to me on the Strip in Vegas. (I think they were just rolling it out.) I thought it was gawd-awful & could not finish the can. I prefer Coke Classic, but honestly couldn't tell it from Pepsi most of the time. Schweppes Ginger Ale is my soft drink of choice, followed by C...

Re: Orange is the new President

Well, the US did think the Taliban was cool and shipped them money and arms in the 1980s to fight the Russians. Then, they slipped the leash and became uncool.

From Peron to Saddam Hussein to Noriega to Bin Laden, it's almost a modern US tradition.

Re: Orange is the new President

Here's the one thing that makes me skeptical about the significance: Aren't the US and Russia pretty much always at odds in covert monkey business? Isn't it always the case that there are shadowy businessmen with passports that don't say "United States" working with various "security contractors" o...

Re: Orange is the new President

I'm curious if it wasn't so that it could be leaked to the US press around election time to further drive a wedge, especially if they have a way to later prove that it wasn't true and further undermine the credibility of the notion of the responsible press. One of Putin's big goals seems to be to d...

Re: Orange is the new President

To me, the report sounds like dezinformatsiya since I can see no benefit - direct or indirect - for Russia to offer such a bounty. After all, the Taliban don't need any extra incentive to kill foreign troops. OTOH, I can see the Russians planting the story as dezinformatsiya for no other reason than...

The term is new to me, but I think I get what you mean by "Physicists' Disease" from what is said above, but just to confirm, could you spell it out?

Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

The biggest weakness of a Westminister style Parliament is that a Prime Minister with a majority government has full control of the legislature. There is no check on his/her power to legislate save what his own party will tolerate. (see below) It's biggest strength is the requirement that the PM be ...

I think a lot of these guys - Mattis, Tillerson, Bolton, Sessions - thought they could 'tame' Trump and guide him to their vision of good policy. They over-estimated his attention span and under-estimated his narcissism.
