Spring has sprung and almost a full month early! Daytime highs have been low 50s (one day it hit 60), nighttime lows are just at freezing, willows have popped and everything is reddening up. Got the first rows of peas in the ground yesterday.

I like that new show "What We Do In The Shadows" (based on a movie of the same name): it's a fake reality show about central European vampires living in modern Staten Island. Only two episodes have aired thus far, but they were very funny. If you haven't seen the movie, highly recommended. Matt Ber...

Moose bourguignon (filled out with some tri-tip to fluff it to 4lbs of meat) was the big family roast this weekend. Nothing fancy but damn it was good. I made it two days ahead of time since stew is always best on day 3.

My only desire to go back is that I'd like to see Penn and Teller. Worth it. My mother lives in Vegas. I visit a few times a year and I'm not a gambler or a people person so I might have a slightly different perspective than the average tourist. I like the city. Not the strip mind you, though old (...

Wow. Jeff put the IKEA shades in the bedroom today -- that's the only room where we blackout ALL the windows, rather than half -- they are DEFINITELY better than the HD ones we bought. It's not pitch-black in there ... but that's only because there's bits of ambient light seeping out from the edges...

That is interesting. The outbreaks are because of concentrations among the unvaccinated I guess then.

Here's a piece on NYC basement apartments, which are largely illegal, and a city initiative to legalize them and bring them up to code, which actually sounds like a rare good thing from the city government: https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-metro-basement-apartments-legal-rent-20190317-story....

No shocker, the NYT editorial board doesn't understand risk and how it's not all black n white:
Mr. Elwell has insisted that the F.A.A. made its decisions solely on the basis of safety. But if safety was the only consideration, then any risk would have warranted action.

Yeah, here at 61N it makes zero sense. We gain just shy of 6 mins of light per day this time of year. That means that any solar advantage to rocking the clock is negated in 2 weeks.

Just for confirmation it was a joke about long ties and short people. It had nothing to do with the Tangerine in Chief. I figure that in his life he's learned to do at least one thing right and that's wear a suit with tie.
