You define civilization as contingent on the existence of rape porn?! You learn something new about people every day, I guess...

But when I saw "huffingtonpost" and ".uk", I knew it was going to be bad. Not just HuffPo bad, and not just UK bad, not even HuffPo bad plus UK bad or even HuffPo bad times UK bad, but HuffPo to the power of UK bad.

EDIT: That wasn't actually anywhere near as bad as I was expecting.

I thought she was trying to say that ALL porn is rape porn... I don't really know, I'm not going to go look to find out if there was more to what she was screeching about.

I knew it was going to happen, someone was going to say it...they want Lord Bloomberg to stay.
I don’t know about the rest of the New Yorkers, but as crazy as it may sound, I don’t want Mayor Bloomberg’s term to end. Compared to the cast of characters in the mayoral race that we have to choose from, Bloomberg is the least of all evils. To his credit, he has also kept the Big Apple a safer place with the controversial stop-and-frisk program, which, as a minority citizen myself, I support.

The first thing I thought of in response was REALLY offensive, so I'm not gonna say it (of course saying this makes me seem just as bad).

I've heard this opinion before. It's the leftist equivalent of "porn is sin" as if you are raping the soul of the person in the picture because... well, it's just bad, mmkay...

I think it's awfully anti-feminist and very superstitious to assume women need to be protected from the thoughts of others who hold naked pictures of them (assuming those pictures were taken voluntarily). The assumption is that women never themselves choose to be nude, that RapePornMen make them through either physical or mental manipulation.

Presuming women aren't capable of making their own decisions seems chauvinist to me, but hey, don't let that get in the way of the thinly-veiled moral crusade against nekked ladies...

I've written a few professional articles on the theme "I paid for school as a stripper, and have no regrets," and the commentariat -- mainly self-described left-wing Champions of Women and the Poor -- had basically the same attitude as the Taliban: we must oppress women and limit their options to demonstrate the vast respect we have for them. (Ask any member of the Taliban or the Saudi Vice Police -- they'll never say "We loathe women and hate the thought of them making choices of which we do not approve," they'll only talk about respect.)

They are also utterly incapable of grokking the difference between Consent and Lack Thereof -- write an article in favor of consensual adult sex work, and somebody will bring up the specter of human trafficking and the Russian mob. If these idiots went back in time and infected the abolitionist movement, the US would NOT have seen a movement to abolish slavery -- instead, they would've tried making it illegal for consensual agricultural workers to get paid. Because the problem is "working in the cotton fields," not "slavery and lack of consent."

What's particularly annoying is, there was quite a degree of overlap between "Those who believed topless dancing should be outlawed" and "those who believe I should STFU about the TSA and just accept that they're acting in my own best interest." So ... in their worldview, there's nothing wrong with women being forced to show their/our tits to strangers as a precondition for travel, but women choosing to show them to strangers in exchange for money is beyond the pale. Fuck consent or the lack thereof -- it's all about conforming to whatever behavior the authorities demand of you.

Sure, like my example with the TSA: "If I do or do not mind a certain activity, everybody else MUST feel the exact same way and if they claim otherwise, they are lying."

Recently I've begun to suspect that the agency/independence thing runs very deeply indeed. To people holding a certain strain of thought, doing something Not Approved By The Authorities is the worst thing you can do. And these people don't all look the same, because the Authorities they worship are different: to some it's religion, to some it's the government, to some it's community opinion. But wherever you find them, they are all profoundly anti-choice and anti-freedom.
