One of the crappy things about high stakes brinkmanship is it forces you into Black Swan mode even if you aren't inclined to think that way. It's one of the reasons I'm so resistant to DOOOOM stories. If you take the large magnitude disaster seriously, your range of rational behavior shifts out of the realm where more probable outcomes are supported. If I really think the dollar will become worthless, I should be behaving in a way that will ruin me if I turn out to be wrong. If I think there are WMD in the desert and limited deterrent effects on parties who may employ them, I shift to ticking time bomb reasoning even if not normally inclined that way. If I think global warming will destroy the earth, I may need to advocate very extreme measures. I find it interesting the way people of various inclinations process claims about black swan events of various types.

She can be really frustrating though.
Clair: This is too hard. I'm going to make it again and add butter that should soften it.
*mixes up batter, adds two sticks of butter*
Clari: Oh no this is just all runny. It didn't work like I hoped. I'm going to have to try an entirely different recipe and add three steps to the cooking process.
Me: Why don't you just try using half the butter!?

Peeps are weird and creepy and too sweet and I say that as a lunchtheif who earlier this month ate an entire tub of pillsbury buttercream frosting over the course of three days. So seriously weird and creeeeeeepy.

Also +1 for leaving a little gray in the hair. </malegaze>

OK but I'm not wasting freezer space on store-bought buttercream. It was getting thrown out one way or another. I chose another.

Cosign. She does neat things and I learn something. Peeps are completely awful even as bad food but as a process it's fascinating. And the videos are well edited if a bit long.

I mean. There are two segments that more or less bookend each episode, reading the ingredients off the package and How to Make Homemade X, that mark it as entertainment.
I do like that when she's working on something lame, like peeps, she makes a better version of it.

Surprises were:
Doritos. She never really got the small bubbles texture. And even though early on a colleague suggests applying the flavor powder while the chips are still warm from the fryer, she doesn't do that. The results look not good.
Oreos. Given the number of truly sad attempts to duplicate Oreos, and my belief that they are the manufactured products of chemical and mechanical wizardry, I was dead sure she'd never get close. But she nailed it basically on her first attempt.

ETA
OMG Ramen noodles. The ridiculous method, with totally lame results, she used to get the "wave" in the noodle had me shouting at my monitor. I could have easily gotten 10x better results, with 1/10th the effort and without sacrificing any kitchen hardware. Could you?

I kinda feel like it's a better solution for ramen than most other options, although in Goat Rope you might be a bit far from a pan-Asian supermarket, so you can't buy Golden Boy peanuts there.

You're correct in that I have no 'better than ramen' options. But in saying "I'd sooner go buy some good noodles than try and make them myself", well yeah but you're missing the point of the show.

A couple videos from a charming content monster (she puts out a nicely-edited video every couple of days) named Emmy, wherein she tries out the edible parts of a cocoa pod, then uses the beans to make a chocolate bar:

She's fun to watch, especially with her whole manic-kindergarten-teacher vibe.
