Anyone else remember DJ Zinc and that 138 trip scene from the 2000s?

By strange coincidence I knew some friends of the not very nice guys who put out a lot of this stuff.

The Bingo Beats compilations are so fucking good though.

JasonL wrote: 22 Aug 2012, 14:18 Related, my music dumbness is well documented - can people tell off hand when they hear a track that it's been brickwalled (which I kind of think I vaguely understand intelletually but can't quite translate that into "what does the effect sound like"). I get "loud", but I can't resolve in my mind what that means on a device at low volume level.
Top quality recent ambient mix. Recommended for missed-train waiting periods in Jiangsu Province.

There are two or three people here who might be into this sort of ambient/avant-garde/what-have-you:

1. https://saveyourface.posthaven.com/musi ... march-1994
2. https://saveyourface.posthaven.com/musi ... tober-1994
3. https://saveyourface.posthaven.com/grat ... ux-of-midi
4. https://saveyourface.posthaven.com/grat ... e-derelict

These are all remixes built from random Grateful Dead weirdness (download link for a zipped mp3 collection at each link). The first three are all pieces of the "Drums/Space" portion of shows from 1994. There are no vocals, discernible songs, or common melodies (in b4 'how is that different from usual GD music'). It's all drums, electronically processed drums, synth sounds, sound snippets, processed guitars, and MIDI stuff. Of the first 3, I think the "Scareports" one is the best--he did a great job picking pieces with ominous/dread feelings.

The fourth one is the strangest and probably the best. In '74, the intermission at GD shows was a proto-electronics thing with lots of bleeping and booping and whatnot. Very dissonant stuff with lots of dead air. The fourth mix by someone named Bubba Ayoub takes a bunch of those, layers them, and adds reverb, delay, and other effects. The layering makes for much less dead air and into more of a complete piece.
