Re: No Sandwich is Safe: The Joe Biden Presidency
Everyone I follow was up in arms over the Austin nomination for exactly this reason. A lot of them decided not to pick a fight over it after the capitol riot, though, basically on the grounds that we need to have someone in the role. Pretty much the same here, the places I read were mostly critical...

I don't want to bother with Gabe Hoffman's twitter timeline, but wonder how much of it is decrying "liberal cancel culture!"

Re: That's a lot of money for a damned Turing Machine!
A lot of it depends on how cool (nifty) you want it, rather than how actually cool you want the processor to run. And a lot of that is based on overclocking. The idea is that you need enough cooling to do the things you want to do without the processor getting hot enough that it will throttle itself...

Re: That's a lot of money for a damned Turing Machine!
For RAM, it's unlikely you'll want to overclock, so go with DDR 3200 RAM. Don't spend money on RGB, I'd stay with either G.Skill or Corsair branded in a half and half 2-stick configuration (so if you want 16 GB, get two 8 GB sticks). For cases, I love my Fractal Design Define Compact . I think Fract...

Which version of Firefox are you on? I'm on Windows Firefox 84.0.2 (64-bit) and tweets are working fine for me. I think you're on a Mac?

Re: The capitol insurrection and its aftermath
I think that the subject of online death threats needs to be revisited from the previous conventional wisdom of "Well, most of them aren't true threats, so we don't really need to do anything about them." Both because they seem to be increasing in number, and therefore seem to be far more of a go-to...

"We were doing routine maintenance and since the replacement parts were caught in a black hole of paperwork overseen by a median federal worker we decided to just delay installation for six to eight months" is something I could totally see. It would also leave a paper trail. If it's something else....

SNOW! Not sticking, of course, but the mere sight of snow is enough to panic most Texas drivers. The snow in my backyard took most of the day to melt. (Frickin' cold. Didn't help that the damn back door popped open in the night thanks to a crappy knob and a not-actually-locked deadbolt, so I came d...

I've said before, and sounds like it's still true, that the nurses and techs who don't give a shit about doing the details of their job properly are the ones who have the long tenures, because they harass and harangue the newer nurses who actually do care, who actually try to make the place run bett...

Re: The capitol insurrection and its aftermath
Yeah, as more videos have come out, it's looking worse and worse. When the only videos were some yahoos meandering around hallways, stairwells, and offices, then it was a lot more of a joke. When videos start coming out of people in body armor carrying flex cuffs, of a mob with helmets and truncheon...

I'm torn on it. I think that Trump should be out. I think that impeachment is probably correct. But I also worry that the Trumpistas will just focus on the idea that the "liberals" are again "persecuting" Trump. Now, hopefully enough R senators are on board with recognizing how horrible Trump stayin...

Not gonna lie that's pretty cool Eta on a more serious note how big was this crowd? Since I think he deleted it; here's the text of the tweet from Trump: These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in p...

On one level you guys are of course right. On another level, we're talking about something that will go down in history books, and I can't fault someone in the military for hesitating before committing troops. In the end, they did agree to send troops (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/06/us/politics...

Someone brought up the point on Twitter: On the call, Trump says "We other states that are going to be flipping soon." Is that more bluster? Or are there similar calls to other officials in Arizona or Wisconsin that weren't leaked?

Jason, I don't know if you're still stuck on that (off by at least a factor of 10, if not by 30) "90,000 people died because of Cuomo's decision about nursing homes" falsehood you brought up before, and if that's why you feel like Cuomo is so responsible for things, but if that is the reason, then y...

Re: Calling 2020 for Entropy
I've been wondering what can be done about a large part of the population and the electorate that believes, based entirely on the say so of interested parties, that there was "Fraud" or even "inconsistencies" in the administration of the election. People, who believe they are being the reasonable on...
