Apparently the house where the front ring of the nacelle cowling landed was the super for the building where my company has its main office.

Re: It's not the size of the screen...
Oh, I'm happy to hear that finally dropped. I'd heard about it a while ago. I was a fan of the PBS show and even read a few of his books afterward becasue of it. The production values are higher, and make for a more enjoyable watch. Can't say the writing or acting is better. I wish I could remember...

I used to listen to him on occasion in the early 90's. Before Clinton won he had a sense of humor. Very partisan humor, sometimes mean spirited, but humor. Lots of songs, sound effects, impersonations, gags, etc. After Clinton won he just ranted. Yeah, '91/'92 he was transgressive. By Jan '93 he wa...

Re: How's the weather? v. 1.1
The state's purported desire to be energy independent of border states and, of course, the federal government, is dumb and actually anti-market FWIW, I'm seeing the claim that their *reason* for being independent was to evade federal regulation. Could that constitute a net-pro-market tradeoff? Doub...

Re: The Well-Dressed Man
My co-worker accused me of being "fancy" today (on Zoom) because I was wearing a cardigan. I always change out of my sweats for a zoom call. I carefully explain that my security software keeps my laptop from recognizing the camera on my external monitor and IT won't fix it for a zoom call. My secur...

Chick Korea. Recently heard a cover of "Spain" on ukulele and am deeply ashamed not to have hated it. It's Corea (probably autospell?) but, yeah, that's sad. Great musician. I own a number of albums, two or three of his and many more where he sat in on piano. Derp at spelling. Not so much autocorre...

We can probably safely close (clothes?) this thread down. The battle is over, pajamas won. I've been converted. It was already going anyway but COVID killed more fashion sense than people by a mile. I refuse to wear pajamas out of the house. I mean to take out the trash, sure, as long as it's after...

Man I thought Plummer had passed sometime in the last few months. I thought he died a few years ago! Not in the general "oh, [elderly celebrity] was still alive? Huh" kind of way but like I have really specific memories of people posting their fond memories of Sound of Music and stuff. Total Mandel...

This seems as good a thread for this as any: an argument on whether technological stagnation is real (also at https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/gMszBSAX23uqYhytR/technological-stagnation-why-i-came-around) Honestly, I think a lot of the pro-stagnation arguments boil down to "I expected this thing to ...

I started off saving up some episodes and hoping that mrs lunch would catch up, but she won't and I got busy with stupid crap and so now I'm gonna churn through the full S5 in pretty much one fell swoop.

Re: Worth a Thousand Lulz
Mrs lunch had dental work today, so we ordered Panera so she could have a smoothie. They apparently let their delivery drivers choose a profile pic. I suspect that my driver has a very lively personality and that were we to meet at a party we'd run out of topics of conversation in a max of two minut...
