This is less about outlaw that which is outlawed and more about allowing the British Government more censorship powers and capabilities...dbcooper wrote:If I see one more call to outlaw things that are already outlawed I will scream.

Re: OFFS: The Forsakening
Taktix, you probably haven't been following the press coverage in the UK.
Ever since it was revealed that a child rapist/murderer viewed child pornography before committing his crime, the UK press have been whipping up a frenzy over how the government must outlaw child and "extreme" pornography. This has been going on for months. This material is already illegal, and has been for some time.
This constant barrage of misinformation has been annoying me no end. And yes, I definitely do not support having to get my ISP to allow me to access grumble flicks. Also, the censoring of search terms will be pointless and almost certainly counterproductive.
All this nonsense detracts from the fact that the UK has critically underfunded and staffed computer crimes policing.

Also, I should add that most people expect that (as usual) eventually this will die down and nothing will come from it.

You're correct in that I hadn't been following reports of this from the mother country. When they make sweeping laws because of a single, isolated instance of horrible, do they name them after the victim too?dbcooper wrote:Also, I should add that most people expect that (as usual) eventually this will die down and nothing will come from it.

Re: OFFS: The Forsakening
Apparently this "opt-in" thing is total bollocks anyway, and the govt is simply going to keep repeating "opt-in to porn" while "opt-in to filtering" is implemented, and hoping no one notices.

As that article rightly states, it would be a very unpopular move to really make things "opt-in to porn", which would make for some rather difficult customer relations!

But I suspect they have their own reason for rejecting default-on, which is that they know if they don't, their call centres will be inundated with bashful customers who have skipped through the set-up process without checking what they ticked or didn't tick and have just realised they are locked out of their favourite porn site. I can hear the calls now: "Yes, hello. I, um, I can't access, er, some of the internet." "Do you mean the porn?" "No, just, er, just some websites." "Porn sites?" "No. Just sites with-" "Porn on?" "Yes, alright, yes. What kind of internet service provider doesn't include the porn as standard?!" It is, in a sense, a fair question.

Re: OFFS: The Forsakening
Wait a minute. You mean you have to contact your ISP to change the filtering? That's just straight up censorship. ISP customer service is a lie.dbcooper wrote:Apparently this "opt-in" thing is total bollocks anyway, and the govt is simply going to keep repeating "opt-in to porn" while "opt-in to filtering" is implemented, and hoping no one notices.

When my advisor, who is English, returns next week, I'm going to ask him if he and the instructor he went out of town with to a teaching conference enjoyed any rumble flicks while in the hotel.

Re: OFFS: The Forsakening
I suggest no, although not because AR didn't beat me to the question, when clearly he did, but because it's not a substansive enough comment. Others might disagree.
Also, I suggest "The Fucksakening" as a revised subtitle for this thread, or that it be used as the subtitle on the next iteration.

Re: OFFS: The Forsakening
It's grumble flicks. And someone already suggested making "the fucksakening" the title, but out would make general chatter nsfw, which might lead it to be flagged by some work filters.the innominate one wrote:When my advisor, who is English, returns next week, I'm going to ask him if he and the instructor he went out of town with to a teaching conference enjoyed any rumble flicks while in the hotel.

Re: OFFS: The Forsakening
Grumble flicks, thanks. That's a typo. My keyboard has had tiny little flowers fall between the keys and become mashed, occasionally causing a keystrike to not register.
And I didn't think of the nsfw thing. Ok.
