Welcome back!

Viking Moose showed up briefly to share the sad news about Mr. Steven Crane, but I don't think he's stuck around. Search parties are out there looking for him, but it's Day 69 and no signs of him.

Hooray! Welcome back, Linguist!

Is there a meaning to your current username, or is it just something random?

Hey Jennifer!

Well, I could not recover my credentials to be linguist :-(

LShap is my catchall online nickname now. L for Leslie and Shap for Shapiro. When I got married way back in 2010 I discovered my father-in-law had the nickname "Shaps" on the Enterprise in Viet Nam, and my husband was sometimes called AShap by friends, so I adopted the nickname along with the surname.

Sorry if that's unnecessary detail. I've spent this week in genealogical research, so that's the kind of thing that's on my mind.

Definitely unnecessary but kinda cool detail: finally substantiated the family rumor that Churchill is my first cousin 5x removed!

Hey D.A.!

It's been so long since I was on a proper chat board, I keep wanting to "like" things here.

Also I have to go all the way to the end of the chain to see recent posts? I'm having white people problems!

No. If you are looking at "Active topics" or other page that lists threads, on the right will be a "Last Post" column with the name of the person making the last post listed. To the right of their name is a little grey square with an arrow in it. Click on that and it will take you to the end of the thread.
