Oh! I thought it said "rate my skyporn". I just assumed I'm not woke enough to understand.

And I guarantee you the nurses don't get to say "Sorry, that patient is just completely inappropriate and I won't see him." You think a mentally ill patient never said something sexist to my mother?
They did at the ward I worked in. I mean, it didn't happen very often, because thin-skins wash out, but almost everybody had somebody who set them off, and who they'd hand off to someone else if at all possible. It's actually better for everyone if the team is open about it among ourselves, since that way we can all cover for each other. The only thing she did here that was unusual was saying the quiet part loud.
She isn't some intern doing a one month rotation in a field she will never again work in. She's a psychiatry resident who publicly announced that she won't treat patients who are out of control and say absolutely terrible things. She voluntarily chose the field where you have to give patients the most benefit of the doubt for their behavior, the field where you treat them because of their inappropriate behavior rather than in spite of it. And she publicly announced that it is unreasonable for her to have to treat the crazy asshole saying offensive shit. That's like signing up for urology when you find dicks triggering.
You know there are psychiatrists who will set foot in a psych ward or work with decompensating patients maybe a few dozen times in their entire career, right?
Pham Nuwen wrote: 15 Nov 2020, 20:52 That's not how it works unfortunately. Treat everyone or none at all. Leave your feelings out of it or I honestly don't understand how you even do anything medical related. I think of the people I help work on as machines I have to help fix. I don't think I could do it if I actually thought of them as people while I'm holding their heart for the doc to suture on a graft. That would be pretty squick.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but what you do and what she does are not really at all the same thing.

It's "Skyper Room," and it'll one day be remembered as the place where Justin Beiber collapses and dies from an OD.

Fair enough on the first point, but on the second point, saying the quiet part out loud is rarely healthy. If people quietly cover for each other, great. If a mental health professional issues proclamations about now helping patients who are acting in certain terrible ways, that's corrosive.

I mean, we all know that there are probably lots of doctors who chose their field precisely so they'd rarely or never have to deal with certain conditions, but everyone would look at them funny if they issued proclamations on how they hate treating those cases. If a doctor said that they never had it in them to sort out, say, complicated autoimmune disorders, well, fine. If they said that they think some of those people are nuts and faking it (and, FWIW, certain psych disorders do seem to overlap with autoimmune disorders, for one reason or another), well, not good.
You know there are psychiatrists who will set foot in a psych ward or work with decompensating patients maybe a few dozen times in their entire career, right?
After training. During training, maybe it's better to try to avoid developing (or at least announcing) too strong of a "I'm not helping that guy" mentality. Save that until you have the luxury of setting the terms of your practice.

Yes, they're tremendously stupid. Or at least acting that way. And it's keeping the rubes going along with them.

"They haven't presented the REAL evidence yet, because they're waiting for the right case!"

"We need more money for our legal challenges to keep THEM from stealing the election! (don't notice that half of the money you donate now for legal challenges will go directly into our pockets because we siphoned off the campaign funds)"

On TV: "There's so much fraud, we're exposing it! We'll overturn this fraudulent election!!!(give us more money)" In Court: "No, we are not alleging any fraud, just that this person didn't see exactly what happened, and that means that there are irregularities because they imagined there could be."

Going in I was expecting to "take issue" with what I found there. But what I found there was pretty much on point.
One quibble, "observation 8" needs to be folded into "observation 2". If you have a menu, then YOU HAVE A MENU, but if you don't, you don't. It's not required that you have one.
